"Dear Kana, This afternoon my 'elderly' mother stopped in for take-out. I was shortly summoned to her house to share in the feast. None of us could get over the quantity of food, but the taste exceeded the quantity. I happened to notice your store out of the corner of my eye last week upon leaving the Chevron and a seed of curiosity was planted. To my delight my curiosity has been satisfied! Can't wait to try some other parts of your menu.
So as not to keep this a secret I sat down and sent out a mass email to my friends in Meridian and some who live on the other side of the 'world,' I mean valley.
Blessings to you and yours......
~Yvonne G."

Mahalo to diners who posted the following reviews on UrbanSpoon.com:
"My friend and I ate
lunch here today. I ordered the 3 meat platter. Well priced and man do
you get a lot of food. Keoni and Kana were very friendly. Keoni
actually has a good voice!ALL of the
meats were simply awesome. It smelled good walking in the front door
and the food was great to back up the wonderful smells. The flavor of
the pork blew me away how good it was.I
felt this was some of the best BBQ I've ever had. One of the BBQ places
in town is good, but Kana Girl's is less expensive , better atmosphere,
friendly owners, and their food is better. I'd highly recommend trying
it. I called a few of my friends to tell them about the place.I will be back very soon!!

- Kana Girls is one the only places in Meridian that I really love. It
is BBQ....and trust me know, I was raised on smoke kissed meat and have
sampled the globe...the best of the best. My praise doesn't come easy,
I am a BBQ snob and proud of it.This place is comfort food....Pork...chicken....beef
its all good, they even have vegetarian menu...HA! The portions are
huge and the hospitality is infectious. I have eaten here a dozen times
and have never been disappointed. Make sure that you try the
brisket..(not on the menu) it is so tender....it melts in your
mouth.......Meridian should be proud to have Kana Girls, it is one of the only true culinary destinations we have. Cheers!
" I love going to Kana
girls and enjoying the great food, atmosphere and most of all Kana, and
Keoni! I love listening to Keoni sing. My kids love it! And I brought
my friend from Hawaii and she was giddy as a school girl! I highly
recommend this place to any one that is down to earth and loves good
food and great people! My favorite is the Musubi local style!" --NLamm- "I found this place on
the internet one day, so my buddy and i ran over to check it out. I did
not have high hopes due to most of the hawaiian restaurants here are
Junk. However, I loved the "shaka" atmosphere, i love the people (Keoni
and Kana), and most importantly the food was sooo ONO! Rich bbq
flavors! They have BIG hearts and big portions too (which i love), and
i know for a fact they put all of their heart and soul into every plate
they sell. I am happy to have gotten to know this amazing couple and we
will be going back for more as often as possible!!! All in all what do i like? great food, great people, which you cant put a price tag on!Remeber: Dont eat til your full, eat til your tired bra! :P" --Pono
- "It is nice to escape to
Hawaii everytime I walk through the doors of Kana Girl's Hawai'ian BBQ.
In Hawai'i food is the one thing that always brings us together. Kana
and Keoni (go PUNS ) have brought Hawai'i to us. Like we say in the
Islands when the food is Great, " Mean da grinds at Kana Girl's, mean."--Harland
- ""Ono" - 5 stars out of 4." "It was a blessing to
find Kana Girl's Hawai'ian BBQ so close to my home. (I would drive to
Twin Falls if necessary.) The ambiance when you first walk in is
comforting and the food is awesome! Everyone quietly eating while
listening to Keoni singing in the back ground. His Hawai'ian heritage
truly shows not only in his song, but his brotherly personality. Kana,
I have never seen her without a warm welcoming smile, ready to chat and
answer any questions you may have. When I first visited, I mentioned my
longing for Manapua to Kana. When I came back a few days later, it was
on the menu! Finally! A place with REAL customer service! I am sold for
life. I am tasting each item on the menu (and have given 5 stars, so
far to each experience.) I am starting to think about combinations of
menu items afterward. I gotta represent, right?Take
it from someone who has lived in the islands of the south pacific for
most if his life. If you are expecting to find "commercial" Hawai'ian
food at Kana Girl's, you will be disapointed. Instead you will find
REAL Hawai'ian home cooked soul food worthy of only Ohana (family and
honored guests), right down to the last 5 star bite."You like E Komo Mai wit Ono food"? "Go Kana Girl's Hawai'ian BBQ my bruddahs an sistas, it's da bes!" --TechieTW
- " The food is amazing,
the main dishes, side dishes, and deserts each are a flavorful delight.
Combine this with the atmosphere and friendly, warm service and you
have a restaurant that can't be beat. I have family that live in Hawaii
and I can say wholeheartedly, Kana Girl offers some of the best
Hawaiian food anywhere!" --David
- "My husband was born and
raised in Hawaii, and has told me about the box lunches for years. When
a friend of his told him about Kana Girl's, we just had to go and try
it, and were NOT disappointed! I have
some Hawaiian recipes, from family who lived there, and have done my
best all these years to please DH - but he says Kana Girl's is better
than mine. It's OK - I don't have to cook.... ;)We've
been back twice now, and are also working our way through the menu -
and THANK YOU Kana and Keoni for the ManaPua! Kana Girl's is a fun,
friendly place to go, great menu, reasonable prices, and you won't go
away hungry. We will be back, and we're recommending Kana Girl's to all our friends and family.A hui ho'u from a haole in Ontario, Mahalo! :)" --Kathy
- "The owners are so fun and friendly! The food was delicious and there
was a lot of it! It tastes like comfort food if you are lucky enough to
be Hawaiian! Great place to take kids. Be sure to try the taro fries!" --Casey D'nae
- "In a nutshell; excellent! We arrived at closing time however Keoni and
Kana welcomed us in with open arms. In her words: "you're here, we will
feed you". The food and the warm service go hand in hand here. We
instantly felt like family and the food wraps your heart within their
island love! I recommend the kalua pork, taro fries, spam musubi, ahi
poke... just try everything!" --Scott & Ladylyn
- "Great authentic Hawai'ian food, good prices, sunny and cheerful
atmosphere (and people). Love the pulled pork sandwich, maha chicken,
shrimp curry. It's all great! I'll be back often!" --Bob
- "This yummie burger has us headed back for more. It was enough to share
with my 3 kids and just perfect for a sunny day meal! We enjoyed some
taro fries (made from taro root instead of 'tatos) which were delicious
even to the picky palates of my elementary-school aged children. Well check out the kids' menu this week and post more. Definitely worth a visit!" --Jenn T-Sv.
- "The best!! Very inexpensive! Very good! Very addicting it's for a good cause" --Amanda Michelle M

Kana & the kiddos enjoyed a day handing out samples of kalua pork (16 hours slow-cooked on the BBQ!) and meeting our Idaho neighbors at the 5th Annual "Taste of Idaho" event at QWEST Arena September 12. We look forward to seeing some of those neighbors at the restaurant! :) |

Much mahalos to John Fry, who posted this online review on his website! --Kana & Keoni
"Today I made my third visit to Kana Girl's Hawai'ian BBQ
on Franklin and Linder in Meridian. It's only been open for a month but
seems to be drawing a good lunchtime crowd. The first thing you notice
is the smoke gently wafting from the top of the Stump's smoker sitting
out front, where chef Keoni barbecues his succulent beef, chicken, and
pork. Proprietors Kana (at the counter) and Keoni (in the kitchen) are
friendly and gregarious. Keoni seems restless in the kitchen and loves
to come out to interact with customers or retrieve meat from his
smoker. The Kalua pig and cabbage plate was excellent (though I've
never liked the gloppy macaroni salad that traditionally accompanies
Hawai'ian plate lunches). The pulled pork sandwich with taro fries was
also yummy. The chicken is good too. By far the best dish is the smoked
brisket (which the menu modestly calls teriyaki beef ). Keoni told me he smokes the brisket for 14 hours. It comes out tender and full of rich, smoky brisket flavor." |
